What's really blocking new #farmers from getting into agriculture?
1) Farmland values keep rising: the national average is close to $4,170 per acre
2) Machinery, livestock, and operating capital make it even harder to finance a start-up
3) Competition from major farming production corporations
4) Restricted market access due to government regulation
What's the solution? #farming co-ops and #regenerativefarming #regenerativeag
We need land set aside for farming with lower rates per acre when that land will be producing food and food security for the local community - we need co-op's for equipment sharing - and regulations reset to allow farmers to sell directly to their neighbors.
LETS GET IT DONE!
In one way this is good news. It means young people are getting into farming programs. But, if people are getting turned away we need to find ways to allow the cohort of people to grow to meet demand.
We need as many young people as possible getting into agriculture!
Buy local!
โThere used to be 1,600,000 farmers and ranchersโฆ raising herds of cattle back around 1967.โ
โWeโre down now to only 600,000.โ
โFour companies control 93% of all the cottonseed sold in the United States.โ
โBeef processing, 85%โฆ is controlled by only four companies.โ
โPork, 70%โฆ is controlled by four companies.โ
โSoybean seeds, 78%.โ
Dr. Meryl Nass just put hard numbers on the corporate monopolization of agriculture.
โJBS is the largest meat processor in the United States and in the world.โ
โJBS has over 100 different brands.โ
โWhen you buy those brands, you have no idea in most cases that the meat comes from JBS.โ
โNot only do we have a problem with monopolies controlling these industries, but also the bulk of these industries are foreign-owned.โ
JBS is a Brazilian company.
โSyngenta is a Chinese company.โ
โBayer is a German company.โ
โThat is a potential issue for food security.โ
Nothing matters more for the future of farming than this issue of corporate consolidation.
Until Washington steps up to enforce antitrust laws and restore competition in the market, family farms will continue to go bankrupt at record rates, and our food security will remain in the hands of multinational corporations.

$30,000 out of $5,000,000?
My farm applied for the Farmer First Regenerative Farmers program.
The local office here in North Carolina told me that they had $5 million from the $700 million that was allocated for this program.
They also told me that we were the only farm that applied for this program in this county. Not to mention, they put on to us a huge amount of paperwork as well as the program they suggested. I tried, and it was a total failure.
The math isn't mathing.

Plans for local agriculture co-ops are in the works. The plan is to bring local meat, crops, and produced goods to the community, all under one roof.
It's essentially a cross between a farmer's market and a grocery store. The best of both worlds!
Co-ops and regenerative local agriculture is the way of the past, and the future. Don't fix what ain't broke!

Support your local #farmer before it's too late! Every region needs local food for food security!
About 28 million acres of agricultural land have been converted to developed uses from 1982 to 2022โan average of roughly 700,000 acres per year. If this trend continues, it won't be long before there's no farmland left. Buy Local - Support Local - Vote Local!
@SecRollins@USDA We were the only farmer that applied for this program in our county in North Carolina.
The local office has $5 million to apply to this program and they offered us $30,000

Where is all of the money going really?
An 84-year-old California farmer discusses the rapid rise in diesel prices and how itโs squeezing already slim margins for farmers.
โWhen somebody looks at the cost of a head of lettuce, first of all, the farmerโs not getting the majority of that dollar.โ
โAnd the other thing is a good chunk of that dollar is going for transportation because weโre shipping food all over the country in order to keep people fed year-round with fresh produce.โ
โAnd diesel is involved in all of it.โ
His farmโs diesel costs are reportedly about 40% higher than they were a year ago.
Farmers canโt simply raise the prices they receive when their costs suddenly spike when corporations control the markets they rely on.
The reality is simple: when a crisis hits, farmers get squeezed, consumers pay more, and giant corporations rake in record profits.
Thatโs a system working exactly backwards for the people growing and buying our food.

Globally, an estimated 46 percent of farmers are victims of unintentional, acute pesticide poisoning every year.
Aldicarb alone caused the largest food borne pesticide poisoning in U.S. history. More than 2000 people were made sick from illegally treated watermelons in 1985. This pesticide is still legal on the sweet potatoes many of us eat today at levels the EPAโs own scientists say are unsafe for children.

โFrom 2015 until January of 2026, you could take foreign meat, and as long as you put it in a package in the U.S., they considered that a โProduct of USA.โโ
Farmer Greg Gunthorp just exposed how corporations misrepresented commodity meat production and sold it as local meat.
In January 2026, a USDA rule took effect restricting โProduct of USAโ labels to meat from animals born, raised, and slaughtered in the U.S.
But that didnโt make it mandatory to label meat with its country of origin.
It only closed the loophole that allowed foreign meat to be labeled โProduct of USA.โ
If the Trump administration or Congress wants to solve this once and for all, they should restore Mandatory Country-of-Origin Labeling.

Look at this video. Fields that grow food. Countryside that looks beautiful. All because of farmers.
Governments cannot keep asking farmers to feed the country, steward the land and absorb every shock from weather to markets then tax their succession and ration support as if they were a problem to be punished. Only nefarious governments hammer our food providers.
No country remains secure if it treats the people who grow its food as an afterthought. Farmers are not asking for pity. They are asking to stay on the land, make a decent living, keep the farm intact and continue doing the work that enables everyone to eat.
Because no farmers, no food.
According to the American Farm Bureau, producers of major row crops face negative returns and financial losses for the fourth consecutive year. Four years in a row!
At the same time, inputs and machinery are hitting record highs.
That's why #farmers are discussing survival strategies instead of how to grow.
We need change NOW!
