This week is Canadian Agricultural Safety Week, led by @planfarmsafety, reminding us that farm safety and mental health are connected.
Exhaustion, stress, and overwhelm affect our ability to make clear decisions, notice hazards, and react quickly when things go wrong. Mental wellbeing isn't separate from farm safety, it's part of what keeps operations running safely.
Safe farms need people who have the capacity to stay alert and present. That means rest, support, and managing stress matter for more than just mental health—they matter for safety too.

Winter storage can get tight, but fire exits and breaker panels must stay open and accessible. Blocked emergency areas can delay escape or response when seconds matter.
Make it part of your winter routine to check that nothing is in the way.
Shivering, confusion, slurred speech, slow breathing, and numb or white skin are all warning signs of cold stress. If you notice these symptoms in yourself or someone else, get indoors immediately and seek medical help if needed.
Stay safe and warm this holiday season!
❄️ Winter is a great opportunity to review safety procedures on your farm.
