@Swiftsswallows I feel your pain! My 13 yo daughter has similar needle/blood draw phobia from years of food allergies. It’s so awful and we’ve tried EVERYTHING
It is with great sadness that Jill and I learned of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. He was unlike any who came before him. Pope Francis will be remembered as one of the most consequential leaders of our time and I am better for having known him. For decades, he served the most vulnerable across Argentina and his mission of serving the poor never ceased. As Pope, he was a loving pastor and challenging teacher who reached out to different faiths. He commanded us to fight for peace and protect our planet from a climate crisis. He advocated for the voiceless and powerless. He made all feel welcome and seen by the Church. He promoted equity and an end to poverty and suffering across the globe. And above all, he was a Pope for everyone. He was the People's Pope - a light of faith, hope, and love.
If you shed tears over the story of Jesus being unjustly imprisoned, then you should shed tears over the story of Mr. Garcia.
"Lord, when did we see you imprisoned?" they will say.
"Whenever you did this to the least of my brothers and sisters, you did it to me" (Matthew 25).
Truth is, if you want society to be better for your child, you have to make society better for every child. Just focusing on yours alone won’t do them any good. It certainly won’t give them the type of society you want. All children are our children.
@LauraMiers I heard about this last year & switched to looseleaf tea that I make w/ a stainless steel strainer. It’s slightly more inconvenient, but unsweet iced tea as one of my life’s little joys. Just saw about the dental floss though, ughhh
If our Christianity causes kids to go hungry, the sick to go without healthcare, the stranger to be unwelcome, the elderly on social security to be called a “parasite,” all while billionaires get richer, we’ve profoundly misunderstood the most basic elements of Jesus’ teachings.
@LauraMiers My SO does house/farm sitting. $100 per day up to two pets and then there would be additional charges if there were specific things like medication, watering the garden or other daily tasks that needed to be done but I would say $100 a day would be a minimum (in NC at least)
I was hungry, but you took free lunch out of schools.
I was thirsty, but you cut humanitarian aid funding for clean water.
I was a stranger, but you sent ICE agents into my church to arrest me.
I was sick, but you took away my healthcare coverage.
I was in prison, but you left me there because you profited off of it.
Whatever you did to the least of these, my siblings, you did to me.
(how I think Jesus would have phrased Matthew 25 if he was preaching in America today)
If your Christianity causes you to be offended by someone asking the most powerful person in the country to be merciful towards the powerless, then you have deeply, deeply misunderstood the teachings of Jesus Christ.
