@JFTMichigan To me, a 9 lane track shouldn’t mean extra runners for a waterfall. Geographic space on the track isn’t the issue, the issue is geographic space in lane 1 which everyone will collapse down to. Having more room on the starting line shouldn’t equal more bodies in the race.
@SHSTrackandXC@michtrack 1000x on this!! I had several extremely ridiculous reasons for not having results marked official - like a tie for 13th place in the HJ at a dual meet. Or “likely hand timed” because a heat of the 200m had 2 kids whose times ended in .x0
@MIXCSpeedRtngs 4:00am-2:00pm - Managing 4 airplanes on a county mosquito contract.
2:00-2:30 - driving to meet.
2:30-8:30 - Timing track meet
8:30-9:00 - Driving home
9:00-10:00 - Setting up next days meet
10:00-11:15 - Biking on trainer.
@MIXCSpeedRtngs @michtrack Turf is a bigger challenge for sure. I have some cylindrical sand bags that Velcro around the camera stand legs. Haven’t had to use that setup much, but worked well in 30mph winds.
@SHSTrackandXC@michtrack Super tough call. Some of the super old times are relatively easy to dismiss. The problem is then identifying the next fastest time. FAT existed at meets in the 90s, but those results can be elusive to locate. B-ridge 4x4 record is from 1978 (3:28.4) - in 2000 we ran 3:28.74 FAT
@MIXCSpeedRtngs @SHSTrackandXC@michtrack@mitca Something that a lot of schools don’t realize: Any reputable timing company probably has their schedule filled by Jan/Feb. waiting until April to find a timing company simply doesn’t work. Demand is too high.
@gulick_kurt@SHSTrackandXC @MIXCSpeedRtngs @michtrack@mitca I can say that we have 3 crews that we keep busier than they want to be. We turn more work away than we actually do. If we had 8-10 crews they would be busy every day. Huge demand for FAT, no where near enough operators.
@MIXCSpeedRtngs Vestaburg could potentially finish 4th as a team yet qualify 5 individuals to the state meet. That would have to be the first time that has ever occurred.
@SHSTrackandXC@gulick_kurt I do strongly believe in the upsweep handoff though. Safer, and faster when done properly. Look at France and Japan. Like clockwork. But, the best technique in the world doesn’t matter if you don’t practice.
@SHSTrackandXC@gulick_kurt In high school You can coach a victory in the 4x100m without having the best athletes on the track. In the 4x200, usually the team with the best athletes will win because of the greater distance covered. Might be time for team USA to learn the undersweep?
@MIXCSpeedRtngs No love for the Mullet Man. 8th place at state finals last year, 9th in the preseason rankings this year. I guess the continued growth of the mullet could lead to worse aerodynamics so I do see your point!! 🤔
