🚨Lamine Yamal on why he ran straight to Raphinha after scoring his stunning free-kick:

🎙️ Reporter: “Lamine, you scored a fantastic free-kick and immediately ran to Raphinha after the goal. Why was that celebration for him?”

🗣️ Lamine Yamal: “Because before he left the pitch, he gave me the captain’s armband and told me something that stayed in my head.

He said, ‘Take the free-kicks and the penalties. I trust you to score them.’

So when that free-kick went in, I knew exactly where I wanted to go.

Raphinha was already off the pitch, but he had just given me that responsibility. He could have taken the armband and simply walked off, but instead he gave it to me and told me to take responsibility.

That gives you confidence.

He’s always talking to me, always pushing me, telling me to be brave and make things happen. So when I scored, I wanted him to know that I heard him.

I went straight to him because, for me, that goal started with those words.

He gave me the armband, he gave me the confidence, and he told me he trusted me. I just had to repay that trust.”
