🔴🇲🇿 [NEW VIDEO TOMORROW] #MozambiqueExposed: The full story behind our investigation.
In late 2024, a young Mozambican blogger named Mano Shottas was shot and killed while live streaming a protest against pollution linked to the transport of chromium ore.
This demonstration was part of a wider campaign of protest against the general election, the crackdown on which resulted in hundreds of deaths. Since then, illegal dumping has persisted along the border with South Africa. The few whistleblowers have been the target of death threats.
With @ZitamarNews and the @DailyMaverick, we pursued Shottas’ work.
🔴🇲🇿 [NEW INVESTIGATION] #MozambiqueExposed: A billion-euro chromium trade, pollution and threatened communities.
Every day, more than 1,000 trucks carrying chromium and other minerals travel from South Africa through Mozambique, heading to the Port of Maputo.
Behind this lucrative international trade lies an environmental crisis.
@ZitamarNews 🌍 Between January 2025 and May 2026, over €800 million worth of chromite and ferrochrome was exported through Maputo, mostly to Asia, feeding global industries.
⚠️ Despite repeated warnings, the pollution continues. Those who speak out face intimidation and death threats.
🔴🇲🇿 [NEW INVESTIGATION] #MozambiqueExposed: He was shot dead while livestreaming. We continued his work.
On December 12, 2024, Mozambican blogger Mano Shottas was filming a protest against pollution linked to chromium ore transportation when he was shot. His final moments were broadcast live on Facebook.
@ZitamarNews@dailymaverick Behind this pollution lies a multibillion-euro international chromium trade, connecting South African mines to the Port of Maputo in Mozambique and global industries.
