This is a cool share from Rick Tocchet folowing last nights thrilling comeback on how the coordinated playoff hoodies for his team and let his players choose the word that best defined them.

Couple of lessons here...

1) Players, regardless of age or level, appreciate celebrating a milestone..ie winning the Pacific Division pennant and qualifying for the NHL playoffs. Team hoodies is one way to do it. This create a sense of a Right of Passage or ceremony to mark the occasion. Green light for coaches to get creative.

2) Ask for feedback from your players. Involving players in the decision making process, again regardless of their age or level, let's them know they truly have equity in the team or program.

3) Fun matters. At all levels. I believe that a coach who goes out his way to keep things fun, while still holding players accountable and setting a high standard, is rewarded with players willing to go the extra mile. In a nutshell, this is the art of coaching.
