A small coastal dene, on the northern edge of Whitley Bay. The site is of local ecological significance and is maintained by a dedicated group of volunteers.
Thank you to everyone who came to out first Easter Egg hunt. We loved watching you all have so much fun, and we hope you all had an amazing time ๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ซ
There was a young seal pup on Whitley Bay beach yesterday who was HALF the weight it should be.
If you see a seal on the beach, please call British Divers Marine Life Rescue and one of them will come along as soon as they can. They have a 24-hour rescue hotline: 01825 765646
We are aware that the footpath is blocked by a fallen tree in the lower Dene as a result of storm Babet.
The Council has been informed and should it be cleared early this week. Meanwhile, our volunteers have cleared other sections of the Dene.
FRIENDS OF BRIERDENE
Volunteers & friends have been working hard. Wildflower & grass areas have been completely cut back. Cuttings have been removed to car park. They will be loading council skips with grass cuttings for recycling. #whitleybay@FBrierdene

We're delighted to announce that the Brierdene Wildlife Site has been awarded the coveted @GreenFlagAward again in 2023, as it is officially recognised as one of the countryโs best!

Spent the morning at the Brierdene BioBlitz with the award-winning @FBrierdene volunteers and representatives from @ERICNorthEast. As well as all kinds of bugs, minnows and spiders, we came across a Semophore Fly which I understand is a new recording ๐
The week is #VolunteersWeek2023 . There are some fantastic volunteer organisations/teams in the ward. Credit to the friends who started their invaluable conservation work in October 2006 Fantastic cause & well done. @FBrierdene#WhitleyBay
