Last of these posts on Christian Ethos highlights since Sept!
The term ended brilliantly with not one but two Christmas CU quizzes run entirely by our sixth form student leaders. Over 60 boys came and two Deputy Head Boys gave talks about the meaning of Christmas. @FulhamBoys
This term Y13 spent 5 sessions in PSHCE learning about addiction & dependency, including drugs, alcohol, gambling, pornography and social media. In the final session Mr O’Donnell and Mr Brown shared the Christian perspective on these life-changing issues.
On 10th November we held our annual Remembrance Service, including the Head Boy leading us in a 2 minutes silence, the school singing Abide with me and a talk about sacrifice that achieves peace, life & hope.
Our year group lunchtime CUs this term have been working through the book of Acts (chapters 1-7 - returning to it in the summer!). It’s been great to see new boys coming along, and to have sixth formers as well as staff leading some of the studies. @FulhamBoys
In Nov, Bishop Emma @e_ineson visited as part of her mission to schools. She took part in assembly, did a Q&A with boys and met some student leaders. For the mission we also had Rev. Tim from @StDionisPG and Emily from @StPetersFulham answering great Qs from Year 9.
In Oct MOBO award-winning Christian rap artist @GuvnaB was interviewed by Mr O’Donnell in a whole school assembly on Music & Faith. Last year Dickens performed his song ‘Cast your cares’ (based on 1 Peter 5v7) at the Eisteddfod.
Chaplaincy assemblies are going through Mark. We’re 7 sessions in, including visits from @StPetersFulham & @FulhamVicar, & have already seen that Jesus is good news, comes to save, can calm storms & raise the dead. Over 100 boys have taken Mark’s Gospels to read for themselves.
Also in Sept Mr Brown led a 6th Form session on worldviews, helping them think through their views on the meaning of life, what happens after death, how we know what is right and wrong, hope, justice and more, before presenting them with the Christian worldview to consider.
As Sept began we held a Y7 assembly where we encouraged them to spend the next 7 years considering what Jesus asks his disciples in Mark 8: “Who do you say I am?” To consider his big claims, whether the evidence supports them and to be kind as they debate it. #ThinkQuestionBeKind
Where better to start than our Carol Service last week @HTBChurch? Orchestra, choir, organ, band, readings & an hour dwelling on the good news of Jesus' birth. Ending with mince pies, mulled wine & all 100 copies of 'Light of the World' from @10ofthose@drjigriffiths given away.
This account has been very quiet for a number of months but over the next few days we’re going to post some highlights of things that have been happening as part of the Christian Ethos at FBS this term (there’s been a lot!). @FulhamBoys#thankfulness
Today's Easter Service: It was great to have Ps Yannick from Stockwell speak to us about Jesus taking Barrabas' place, an interview with the chaplaincy student leader, the choir perform When I Survey, the band lead us in song, a quiz, prayers and lots to think about! @FulhamBoys
It was brilliant to watch some Year 10 boys performing at @LyricHammer as part of @franticassembly , and to see some other local schools too. A wonderfully physical and dramatic performance inspired by Othello. @FBSDrama
Great to see so many Year 9 boys and parents at the Key Stage 4 options evening last night. Lots of engagement and really good conversations taking place with passionate subject teachers. September will be exciting! @FulhamBoys
It was great to have Neil from @_goodnewsuk leading an assembly for Y8 and offering a copy of the New Testament & Psalms to every boy. Already seen some boys reading them and asking questions
Looking forward to the Y7 assembly after half-term! @fulhamboys@LDBSSchools
