Reaffirming how precious a peaceful environment is may be the first step we can take. According to 2025 reports by organizations such as the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED), approximately 831 million people worldwide live in areas exposed to conflict or the threat thereof. This equates to about one-sixth of the current global population.
The Number of Conflicts is at a Record High
• State-based conflicts: According to the latest data from the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP), armed conflicts involving states have reached 61, marking the highest number since statistics began in 1946.
Record Numbers of Displaced People
According to a 2025 announcement by the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), the number of people forced to flee their homes due to conflict or persecution (refugees and internally displaced persons) has reached over 122 million worldwide.
In recent years, in addition to large-scale combat in places like Ukraine, the Middle East (Gaza, Lebanon, etc.), Sudan, and Myanmar, the prolonged and increasingly complex nature of localized conflicts in areas such as Africa's Sahel region has significantly driven up these numbers. It is by no means an issue confined to just a few regions; the reality is that conflicts are occurring at an unprecedentedly high rate on a global scale.

武力紛争位置・事件データプロジェクト（ACLED）などの2025年の報告によると、世界で約8億3100万人が紛争やその脅威にさらされる地域で暮らしている。これは、現在の世界人口の約6分の1に相当。

【紛争の数は過去最多レベル】
• 国家の関与がある紛争: ウプサラ紛争データプログラム（UCDP）の最新データでは、国家が関与する武力紛争は61件に上り、1946年の統計開始以来、過去最多を記録。
• 武装勢力などを含めた総数: 赤十字国際委員会（ICRC）の報告によると、非国家主体を含めて世界中で発生している武力紛争の総数は約130件に達している。世界の独立国（国連加盟国）が193カ国であることを考えると、非常に広範な国や地域で何らかの紛争が起きている計算になる。

【記録的な避難民の数】
UNHCR（国連難民高等弁務官事務所）の2025年の発表によると、紛争や迫害によって故郷を追われた人々（難民や国内避難民）は世界で1億2200万人以上に達している。
近年は、ウクライナや中東（ガザ、���バノンなど）、スーダン、ミャンマーなどでの大規模な戦闘に加え、アフリカのサヘル地域などでの局地的な紛争が長期化・複雑化していることが、これらの数字を大きく押し上げている。決してごく一部の地域だけの問題ではなく、地球規模で見てかつてないほど高い割合で紛争が起きているのが現状だ。
