tripping is unironically a good mechanic because it makes you accept that no matter how safe you play, the game can still decide you just lose and you gotta hold that L.

@JW_Ketchup@PkmnAnon I remember I had a pokedex as a kid that asked type chart questions and I was baffled when it told me dragons were weak to dragons. You can't even find that out in gen 1 because the only dragon move does fixed damage regardless. Same for "actually ghost isnt weak to psychic"
@PowerOfTheC@jaketropolis It's been a while so my memory is fuzzy but yeah I think we knocked a lantern or candle over onto spilled alcohol. I think the DM was used to higher level 3.5 builds so like any roll below a 20 resulted in complete and abject failure
@jaketropolis The rest of the game was just stuff like that (we caught a tavern on fire by rolling too low to pour a beer) until we called the game and never played with that guy again. I assume that's what happens when most people try to run a game like this tho
@jaketropolis This is how my first D&D session ever went. I asked if there was anywhere advantageous to stand during combat, DM said there was a small hill. I failed the roll to walk up it and that wasted my whole turn, for some reason.
