I like to think that Dabi has insomnia and it really messes him up sometimes.
He couldn't tell you when or how it started, he vaguely remembers staying awake for hours upon hours on end when he was younger, not being able to fall asleep as he stared at the wall... Maybe that's when it started.
As he grew older it had gotten much, much worse. As a teenager, living on the streets he would stay awake for days on end with no safe place to rest his weary eyes even for a single moment.

Once he met the league he could at least take naps when he couldn't keep his eyes open anymore and the fatigue got absolutely unbearable, he finally felt safe enough to do so.
But he still couldn't 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 sleep...

There are times, when he's experiencing a really bad manic episode, where he won't sleep for so long he starts hallucinating, throwing up and passing out.
There's nothing anyone can really do when he gets like this... All the league can do is try making him as comfortable as they possibly can in hopes he falls asleep.

Though... Dabi 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 find a deep comfort with Hawks....

He likes to rest his head in his birdie's lap and close his eyes, he knows and feels he's safe as Keigo's talons gently scratch at his scalp. Every now and then he actually manages to fall asleep while in the birdie's lap.

It helps... He's not as tired anymore whenever his dove is around
The thought and felling always makes him feel weightless as he gently gets lulled into a deep, dreamless sleep he needed so very much.
