Mark Carney’s recent boast has been that Canada is projected to have the second-fastest growth in the G7 this year and next. He repeated it in speeches as recently as 15 September 2026 at the Canada Investment Summit and earlier in May at the Economic Club of New York

That line is a step down from his original campaign pledge to build the “fastest growing” or “strongest” economy in the G7

The OECD’s Interim Economic Outlook released today (23 September 2026) now forecasts Canada’s real GDP growth at 0.9% in 2026. That ties Italy and puts Canada ahead of only Japan (0.8%) and France (0.4%) among G7 countries. The United States is projected at 2.2%. The forecast for Canada was cut from the OECD’s previous 1.2% estimate, with the downgrade attributed in part to US tariffs

Lammam’s highlights exactly that revised ranking. Earlier official talking points (including some Finance Department notes) had cited the prior OECD/IMF projections that still showed Canada in second place behind the US

When we look at an oak, a sequoia, or a balsa tree in the Amazon rainforest, we're looking at solidified carbon and oxygen.

Trees do not obtain structural mass from the soil; it comes out of thin air. Plants are built almost entirely from atmospheric gases—living, complex architectures of carbon, oxygen and sunlight. No wonder that as children, we hug them, play and climb in them, or wander through their woods, hearing them sighing in the wind.

Around 90% to 95% of a tree's dry weight is carbon and oxygen, pulled directly from atmospheric carbon dioxide. Most people assume trees draw their body from the earth, yet the soil volume beneath a canopy remains unchanged as a sapling matures into a giant.

Roots do not consume dirt to build branches; large trees leave no gaping holes in the ground. Instead, the root network is a mechanical anchor to hold the heavy tree structure upright, while absorbing water and a tiny fraction of soil minerals—nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. These are their biological multivitamins, accounting for less than 5% of final dry mass.

Through photosynthesis, sunlight breaks apart carbon dioxide and water molecules. The plant releases oxygen back into the atmosphere and chains the remaining carbon and oxygen into glucose molecules, forming complex structural polymers like cellulose and lignin.

Across the globe, an estimated 3 trillion trees hold roughly 500 billion cubic meters of wood. Every forest on Earth is in reality solidified atmosphere—hundreds of billions of tons of air trapped, structured and given physical form by living plants.

Mankind owes its survival to these friendly giants of the natural world.

Canadians have heard this lie before when Justin Trudeau was PM:

“The carbon tax doesn’t impact prices”.

Canadians came to find out at the grocery store and the gas pump - that was a lie.

Now Mark Carney is making the same argument about his industrial carbon tax:

When you add a cost to operating a business, that cost is passed down through the supply chain and ultimately, the consumer pays more.

Eliminating the industrial carbon tax would make Canadian potash somewhat cheaper to produce and more competitive, but it would not automatically, or substantially lower the price farmers pay.

Much to David Cochrane's chagrin, CBC’s Katie DeRosa just laid out the problem with David Eby’s snap election: he’s running against Donald Trump while his own government is carrying a record $13 billion+ deficit and his cabinet is openly split over the LNG projects he now calls the way out of his deficit

Eby referenced Trump 18 or 20 times and is desperate to tether the BC Conservatives to “MAGA-style politics,” claiming they would lift the U.S. alcohol ban and fold to Trump.

DeRosa she put the harder numbers to Eby: a record deficit that isn’t shrinking, with LNG and critical-mineral projects offered as the fix

The Eby problem is that the fix is not consensus inside his own cabinet. Emergency Management Minister Kelly Greene has publicly opposed at least one LNG expansion, and the environmental wing of the NDP base is already restless. DeRosa flagged the obvious risk: those votes can go to the Greens

The Conservatives have their own mess. The NDP has the same kind of internal fracture plus the ugly books and a premier whose pitch is that the other guys are Trump

That’s the shaky race Eby just called and CBC has to keep "Trump Trump Trump"ing for him to win, like they did Carney... maybe BC'ers catch on this time @katiederosayyj
