Hot of the new home-built macroscope. 3 minutes of retinal waves imaged over entire retina. (5x speed). Scope designed and built by incomparable Ben Smith, biology provided by @atiriac1 and @MiahPitcher. So much more to come!
Our latest study is available as a preprint.
We show that psychedelics induce subtle changes in gene expression but robust changes in alternative splicing lasting at least one month, suggesting that alternative splicing may represent a general mechanism for prolonged plasticity.
We have a new PhD position available. Please spread the word and retweet. The project will combine retina recordings, computational modeling, and optogenetics to help further develop vision restoration therapy. See here for more information: https://t.co/FnP2JTsHay
New preprint! 🔥A wonderful collaboration of our @FellerMarla lab with Matthew Po, and @shekharlab. Here, we dive into the impact of activity on the transcriptome of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), the sole output neurons of the retina. 1/12

So much fun at @UCBerkeley retreat! Great talks, truly insightful and probing discussion with trainees, a splendid show of talent, and of course glorious Lake Tahoe.. thank you so much for having me along!
With the photo! Congrats to @IndigeNerd for being recognized for her creative approach to identifying research questions. Just thrilled to have her as a colleague
Congrats to MCB's Andrea Gomez @IndigeNerd for being on Science News' list of 10 scientists who are transforming our horizons! https://t.co/XLKgtfeoZl via @Society4Science
A few postdocs asked me to read over their job applications. Here’s a few bits of advice: 🧵 /10
1. If any advice doesn’t ring true for you, discard it (including this!)
2. People on the search committee are keen to welcome a colleague, they aren’t looking to take you down
We are recruiting PhD students for this fall, to work at the interface of visual neurophysiology and machine learning. Are you enthusiastic (and ideally knowledgable :) about both? Send me an email!
