Just watched a video about why MMORPG's are no good anymore, it made some valid points but missed the truth: it's WoW's fault. WoW went mainstream, and when that happened the player base changed dramatically. A genre that was once populated by a smallish group of awkward nerds

Yes things similar to "raids" existed in Anarchy Online, SWG, Asheron's Call, DAoC, etc, but we didn't call it that, and it wasn't the focus, it wasn't the goal. It was simply more shit to do after we'd done everything else. But now? It's everything.

I'm a masochist. I keep giving Elden Ring more chances. But the truth is, the game's biggest problem isn't that it's hard, (it is absurdly hard) it's that, apart from killing bosses, nothing you do matters. It all resets whenever you save/level up.

which is maybe why even though I bought both games around the same time, I only have 16 hours in Elden but 76 hours in Lost Ark. /shrug
