Royal Greenland’s history of mistreating workers hit a new low with the St. Anthony closure—right after they abandoned bargaining. According to Royal Greenland, even the most elementary aspects of human decency—like choosing to work overtime and having one rest day each week—are out of reach. These workers aren’t chasing unrealistic dreams; they’re pleading for the bare minimum of dignity and respect. We are still waiting for answers. Royal Greenland’s intimidation tactics and the sudden closure of the St. Anthony plant are unacceptable. This isn’t just a negotiation setback—it’s a direct attack on our workers’ rights and livelihoods. According to Royal Greenland, simple principles of human decency, like voluntary overtime and a day of rest per week, are not in the realm of possibility. These workers aren’t asking for a pie in the sky – they are asking for the most basic level of dignity and respect. Enough is enough! Royal Greenland walked out of bargaining after just 10 minutes and then chained the St. Anthony plant shut—leaving our members in the dark. Royal Greenland suggests that basic standards of human decency, such as voluntary overtime and a weekly day of rest, are unattainable. These workers aren’t demanding extravagant luxuries – they’re simply seeking the fundamental dignity and respect they deserve. This fight isn’t over. More than 50 Newfoundland and Labrador's fish harvesters are outside Mark Carney’s rally in St. John’s. Police said they told them to move outside. The front doors are now locked. Carney started his speech saying he wants to acknowledge them and is here to listen.
While acknowledging the protestors off the top of his speech, Carney said he understands the importance of making decisions close to the wharf. Back story about the demonstrators: https://t.co/xZyuYNgo4e
FYI-The United Seal Industry Association of NFLD & LAB was created to explain why sustainable seal harvests have become an environmental necessity and to dispel inaccurate information about the seal harvest that has been circulating for decades https://t.co/XqCU9NKlKK @CoastalRpg
@NTVNewsNL@Joanne_NL spoke to reporters but failed to connect with 3K harvesters who waited all day to hear from her. Shameful behaviour in first major decision in portfolio. #nlpoli
@Joanne_NL decision to delegate the responsibility of her first significant policy action reflects a deplorable lack of respect for fish harvesters whose livelihoods rely upon her competency. The full management plan has not yet been released, more information to follow. #nlpoli
Minister @Joanne_NL Thompson has demonstrated a profound failure in leadership today in her first act as fisheries minister, leaving 3K harvesters waiting for a full day and late into the evening without communication or resolution. Late this evening, FFAW-Unifor finally received confirmation from DFO Deputy Minister Annette Gibbons regarding the 3K snow crab TAC: a 25% reduction for offshore and a 20% reduction for inshore. These cuts are wholly unacceptable to fish harvesters, as they are fundamentally misaligned with the ecological realities of the region. #nlpoli
🔴📣SNOW CRAB NEGOTIATIONS PROCEED TO PANEL SUNDAY
The parties have failed to reach an agreement on crab and are proceeding to the Panel on Sunday morning at 9:30 in St. John's. A further update will provided following Panel submissions. #nlpoli
“We’ll be looking to get clear commitments from @Joanne_NL on where she stands on our key priorities. Our members have been abandoned by the Liberal MPs they elected, and relationships will need to be rebuilt,” says FFAW-Unifor President Dwan Street on Thompson's new role in cabinet. Read more:

Thank you @SiobhanCoadyNL for standing up for brewing jobs in our province! Our union represents members at the Molson brewing plant in St. John’s. The plant employs up to 100 full time jobs year round. Good paying jobs. All of which would be lost overnight if trade restrictions on alcohol were removed. #nlpoli #buynl
