Clint Eastwood Said Something About Getting Old That Stopped Me Cold.
Aging is not gentle.
You are still here. Still present. Still watching the world move. But the body that carried you through everything - the wars, the work, the wildness of youth - begins to ask for more than you can give it. Joints that never complained now speak up in the morning. Eyes that once took in everything now flinch at the light. Breathing, which never required a single thought, starts needing little pauses.
But none of that is the hardest part.
The hardest part is the quiet.
At a certain age, you reach for the phone and remember there is no one left to call.
The people who knew you when you were young - who remembered the same summers, the same streets, the same faces
- are gone. One by one, then all at once, until the memories you carry have no one left to share them with.
So you tell the stories anyway.
To whoever will listen. With a little more color than perhaps the truth deserves. With a touch of pride you've earned and a grief you don't always name. You know the person across from you wasn't there. You know they can't quite feel it the way you do.
But you tell them. Because the telling is the holding on.
Those stories are not just memories. They are the proof that a life was lived. That people were loved. That things mattered.
And if no one asks for them - you offer them anyway, quietly, like setting something down on a table and hoping someone picks it up.
Old age is not simply what happens to a face or a body.
It is memory looking for a place to rest.
And what an older person needs - more than advice, more than solutions, more than someone telling them how to feel - is simply someone willing to sit down, be still, and listen.
Not to fix anything.
Just to be there.
That is the whole gift. And it costs nothing.

⚡️⚡️⚡️ Zelensky wrote an open letter to Putin
When you came to power in Russia more than 26 years ago, many in Ukraine had a positive attitude toward you. That was true. That is now in the past.
Today, the absolute majority of Ukrainians positively view the fact that our long-range drones “visited” the opening of your forum in St. Petersburg, covering a distance of more than 1,000 kilometers. As you well know, this distance is not the limit of our capabilities.
But now we all see that this is finally becoming unacceptable for Russians — that the war is bringing more and more negative consequences to Russia.
They do not like our drones and missiles.
They do not like fuel shortages and constant price increases.
They do not like ongoing bans.
They do not like your intention to launch a second wave of mobilization to expand the war to another direction in Ukraine or to direct it against other neighboring countries.
They do not like that your war has no end in sight.
Yes, you can still force Russians to live this way. But your resources are significantly shrinking.
You cannot fail to notice this. After 26 years, old age is starting to take its toll. The further it goes, the more fatigue will grow — including from you.
It’s not that we in Ukraine are worried about Russians after everything your war has brought to Ukraine. But I care about Ukrainians.
We are losing our people, and every loss is painful. And even when Ukrainian losses are one to five or one to six compared to Russian losses, it still matters greatly.
Ukraine preserves its independence. And it will preserve it — despite any predictions.
We have brought the war onto your territory, and you would not have managed it without help from North Korea. You are the first Russian leader who has had to turn to Pyongyang for assistance.
And today you are completely dependent on China — also a first in Russian history.
The choice is yours now. Stop the war. Ukraine offers to end this war. I propose a meeting.
We believe Europe’s participation is necessary — those who are truly capable of influencing the situation. We believe the United States must be involved, and this could determine the configuration of a new security architecture in our part of the world.
The frontline is now the line from which diplomacy should begin.
Ukraine is ready for a “all for all” prisoner exchange, and this could become a good prologue to ending the war.
If you do not personally come to the idea that this war must end, Ukraine will continue to fight for its existence. We will have those who support us.
But you will also have to fight much more for your own existence — not Russia’s, but your personal one. And this is not a threat from me or Ukraine. These are facts of Russian history: when Russia grows tired, changes happen.
We can work toward that fatigue. You can stop your war.
Eternal memory to all whose lives were taken by this war.
Glory to Ukraine.
Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE-02) - @RepDonBacon: We are one signature away to get a vote on the floor that would put sanctions on Russia and renew military aid to Ukraine. We need one more signature, and I can guarantee you there'll be a lot of Republicans who vote for that. We gotta push the discharge (petition) to make it happen.
“I pray every Wednesday for victory in Ukraine. Hear, hear. I'm a believer. There's a God that listens to our prayers.
I believe in the God of the Bible, and I pray for Ukraine's victory, and I pray for justice and judgment on Putin and his henchmen, and that God will come down and help Ukraine win this war much sooner rather than later.
I'm so moved by the heart of so many Ukrainian believers that I've met. I was at a worship service yesterday, with some Ukrainian priests and some of the folks that were affiliated with him, and you could just see the faith. And when I was there, I saw the faith.
So my second point, Ukraine's fighting for freedom, free markets, democracy, rule of law, and they wanna walk the talk of being part of the West. Folks who were involved with bribery and all that stuff, they're in jail now. Ukraine is wanting to be part and be aligned with the West. They don't wanna be part of the Russian shadow, and they wanna move away from that, and that's one of the reasons why Putin don't like it. They shows that his neighbor could be a democracy and free market.
And I think this shows even more clearly that they (Russians) just want to reclaim old territory and they don’t care about Ukraine. They don't care about Ukrainians. They just wanna restore their old borders. But this is a fight against evil versus good.
And America's gotta stand on the right side of this, on the side of good, which means we gotta help them with military weapons. We gotta help them with long-range precision F-16s with new radars, air defenses. And we've gotta put sanctions on Russia that we force the president to put on them. Cause I've not seen him do right here.
So we are one signature away to get a vote on the floor that would put sanctions on Russia and renew military aid to Ukraine. And so talk to the folks you know. We need one more signature, and I can guarantee you there'll be a lot of Republicans who vote for that. We gotta push the discharge (petition) to make it happen.
My heart is with you. My prayers are with the Ukrainians who are here. We want a victorious Ukraine that's aligned with the West. And I tell you a victorious Ukraine will be a leader in the EU. And they're gonna be a leader in NATO” - Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE-02) on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Good session of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group in Berlin today. Vital military equipment from NATO Allies continues to flow into Ukraine, including through PURL and many countries stepped up with new contributions
This is key, because Ukraine’s security is our security
U.S. naval vessels are on patrol in the Gulf of Oman as CENTCOM continues to execute a U.S. blockade on ships entering and departing Iranian ports. U.S. forces are present, vigilant, and ready to ensure compliance.
Today, I sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro informing them that I will not be sitting down with them for their inquiry over a 90-second video I filmed in November.
Here's why.
"This is part of what makes Trump-brand Christianity as a cultural and political force so dangerous. Trump’s political project is seen by the MAGA faithful as utterly righteous...But he has license to transgress moral boundaries as he does that work."

Former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull:
“When you see Trump with Putin, as I have on a few occassions, he’s like the 12-year old boy that goes to high school and meets the captain of the football team. ‘My hero!’ It’s really creepy.”
Russia's fastest growing group is Muslims, Orthodox Christianity is at a 20 year low, only one percent of Russians even attended Christmas mass (compared to 50 percent in the United States), yet many Americans are falling for the fiction that Russia is a Christian super power. Watch our @NewsHour analysis of how Russia is wooing conservative America by portraying itself as a bastion of "traditional values."
The heart of the Church is torn by the cries rising from places at war, especially from Ukraine, Iran, Israel, and Gaza. We must not grow accustomed to war! Let us instead reject as a temptation the allure of weapons. #Peace
Pope Leo XIV: "I carry in my heart the sufferings of the beloved Ukrainian people. Let everything possible be done to achieve a true, just and lasting peace as soon as possible. May all the prisoners be freed and may the children return to their families.”
Today, our government team reported on the economic partnership with the United States. We have an agreement. It has been signed and will be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada for ratification. And we are interested in having no delays with it.
All our representatives did a good job. The agreement has changed significantly during the preparation process. It is now truly an equal partnership — one that creates opportunities for substantial investment in Ukraine, as well as significant modernisation of Ukraine’s industries and, equally importantly, its legal practices.
The agreement foresees no debt. It stipulates the establishment of a Reconstruction Fund that will invest in Ukraine and generate returns in Ukraine. This means joint work with America, based on fair terms, allowing both Ukraine and the United States, which supports us in our defence, to make money in partnership.
President Trump and I discussed our readiness to conclude this agreement during our meeting in the Vatican. In fact, this is the first tangible outcome of that Vatican meeting, making it historic. We look forward to other outcomes from that conversation — it was a meaningful meeting, and President Trump and I used every minute to the fullest. I thank him for that. And once again, I thank both our teams — the Ukrainian and the American.
I wish my friend, former Senator and retired Colonel, Tom Brewer a safe trip to Ukraine. It’s his fifth trip.
"Brewer said he doesn’t see any quit in the Ukrainian soldiers he’s met at the front, some of whom are 50 years old or older.
'It’s all because they grew up in communism, and they know the consequences of giving up,' he said. 'They’d rather die than see their kids and grandkids grow up in that system.'"

This year marks my mom’s 10th year of sobriety, and I'm grateful that we were able to celebrate in the White House with our family.
Mom, I am so proud of you.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says the U.S. was headed towards a “financial calamity,” says the Trump admin is trying to help Americans getting demolished by debt.
Ignore the noise. Listen to this.
“I'm not happy with what's going on in the market today, but the distribution of equities across households…”
“The top 10% of Americans own 88% of equities.”
“The next 40% owns 12% of the stock market.”
“The bottom 50% has debt. They have credit card bills, they rent their homes, they have auto loans.”
“We've got to give them some relief.”
