Manitoba has declared a State of Emergency this afternoon as wildfires continue to rip across its province. The Premiere has asked Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, for activation of the military to help evacuate more than 17,000 people.
The fire above started in Saskatchewan, crossed the border into Manitoba and is now less than two kilometers from the town of Flin Flon. (1.2 miles) The fire is now 20,000 hectares (50,000+ acres.)
Fire WE017 outside the town of Sherridon is now over 40,000 hectares (100,000 acres). Manitoba is less economically robust than other provinces and does not have a large firefighting force like Alberta or B.C.
Military transport evacuations should begin shortly.

Are we teaching resiliency, or are we just telling firefighters to be more resilient?

@MarinaMedvin I’d like to see how effective those sprinklers would have been during 70-90mph winds…
No amount of working hydrants, raked forests, ground equipment or aircraft would have able to stop this immense firestorm.
