Looking for a change in career? Applications open next month for seasonal firefighting roles.
Spend your summer protecting the Victorian community. We employ several hundred seasonal firefighters on a full-time basis for a fixed term each year (generally between November and April). They work alongside our permanent firefighting staff and help deliver land management activities and respond to bushfires and other emergencies.
You could be rappelling out of a helicopter one day or operating a chainsaw the next.
Register your interest ahead of the application open date on 2 July: https://t.co/wczloVDchc

Did you know that one of Australia’s most iconic bush huts—Craig's Hut— was only built in 1982 for the set of the film The Man from Snowy River🎬🐎
Sadly, it was destroyed in 2006 by the Great Divide Fire, but it was rebuilt and reopened to the public 2 years later.
And you can see why this spot was chosen—with these epic views over Mount Cobbler and the Upper King River Valley 😍
Craig's Hut is accessible 1 hour and 15 minutes from Merrijig, either directly by 4WD or by 2WD followed by a 1.2 km walking track 🚗🚶🏽
Many of our seasonal roads—like Clear Hills Track, which you'll take to reach Craig's — may not have been travelled upon for many months. So keep an eye out for fallen trees or other obstructions, and be aware that road conditions may still be waterlogged or slippery.

Held in the Mallee at the Underbool Recreation Reserve more than 70 professionals from across multiple emergency agencies came together.
Presentations covered:
🌧 the seasonal weather outlook

The day also included presentations on aerial firefighting – water drop testing, the launch of the Fire Response Plan - Pine Plains and concluded with a field trip to Patchewollock State Forest for on-ground strategy discussions.
It's all about fostering cooperation and a shared commitment to keeping communities safe!
Don't let your fun turn into a bushfire emergency.
About a half-hectare was burnt yesterday in the Gunbower State Forest – a timely reminder of the danger of unextinguished campfires 🔥
In the last 8 days, Forest Fire Management Victoria firefighters and CFA volunteers have responded to three unattended campfires in the Gunbower State Forest near Koondrook.
As visitor numbers rise during the school holidays, the risk from unextinguished campfires increases.
Remember:
🔥 Never leave a campfire unattended
🔥 Use water, not soil, to put your campfire out
🔥 If it’s cool to touch, it’s safe to leave.
Fire safety is a shared responsibility.

If weather and forest conditions are suitable, firefighters will ignite the following planned burns this week:
📍 Patchewollock State Forest – Chained Break (727 hectares)
Without planned burning and other bushfire risk management works, bushfires will be bigger and harder for our firefighters to control.
ℹ You may see or smell smoke.
ℹ Watch for our crews and follow their directions.

As temperatures climb, so does snake activity! 🐍
Remember, while they're out and about, they're generally no threat if you give them space.
Let's all be extra careful out there:
✅ Tidy your outdoor areas.
✅ Supervise pets and children.
✅ Wear proper shoes and long pants outdoors.
✅ Never try to catch or harm a snake.
✅ Call 000 immediately if a bite occurs.
