New Article! with my academic family, @Fharris3, @DrKingTina, @IdaraEssien16. On racelighting. Informed by the sociological concept of gaslighting, racelighting is an act of psychological manipulation whereby people of color receive messages that
make them second-guess themselves and their lived experiences with race and racism. The purpose of this article is to propose racelighting as a theoretical construct to enhance understanding of the impact of race and racism on the well-being and success of students and educators of color in community colleges. The antecedents, key constructs, and consequences of racelighting, along with examples of its manifestation in community colleges are discussed in this article. In addition, salient implications of racelighting for students, faculty, classified professionals, and senior administrators are presented. The article concludes with recommendations for practice and
future research on racelighting in educational contexts.
Here is my latest op-ed article with @Fharris3 and @DrLukeWood defining servingness at Black Serving Institutions – when you read it, you’ll understand why this designation demands the support of the Governor and the Legislature.

Black athletes should not attend institutions in states that have introduced or enacted anti-DEI & voter suppression laws. If they aren’t invested in your lived experiences as Black ppl they do not deserve the $ & recognition generated from your labor. https://t.co/uRlF4h6cmr
Maduro appears to be getting destroyed in the elections. His supporters are taking to the streets in a show of force.
Expect Maduro to declare himself the winner, claim fraud and urge his supporters on to violence.
Sound familiar?

Enjoyed @cablackstudents with @drfharris3 & panelist! When discussing Black student success the socioeconomic status of Black students is 🔑. Removing barriers is about addressing disproportionate poverty levels.
🗣️Educators focus on programs that are closing the income gaps.
