"Nobody is using those cycle lanes"
Glad to see #Gorbals Street busy with cars, cyclists and pedestrians sharing the public realm this evening. It's time to fill the city with joy. Keep calm and carry on ☕
@joe_yer99 I don't know why Glasgow uses two different colours. From the Public Realm Design Guide 2020 "Colour choice should fit in with local material palettes but buff is the default colour."
June 2025 GCC applied for funding for just 11km of new cycle lanes. June 2026 and still no update on if the funding is going to be granted. Imaging if GCC was still telling us 200+km will be built by 2031

Had a lovely day exploring Glasgow by bike 🚲
Glasgow’s investment in protected cycle lanes is paying off, with studies showing a huge rise in cycling on safe route, as more people choose bikes for everyday journeys. 👏👏👏🏴
@yetiayrshore@BBCScotlandNews Cyclists spend more in local shops. When Glasgow built a cycle lane on Victoria Rd similar claims were made, and now it's open there has been an increase in shops

@DPPolitical@SDPhq@SDPScot It would be great to see an active SDP in Scotland, not sure how it will happen given the number of parties that are already here sadly
@support_women@Smidgey1@heraldscotland The council put those lanes in and they are good quality. But the council did nothing to make the junctions safe or the horrible roundabouts so very few people use them. They are sadly a great example of how not to build infra.
@support_women@Smidgey1@heraldscotland Most of the cycle infra funding comes from the active travel part of the Holyrood transport budget. It cannot be used in other areas.
@support_women@Smidgey1@heraldscotland Are showers needed? I don't need a shower after a cycle. It's not done in the Netherlands either. Lots of parents at my children's primary school have kids on their bikes, but yes it is a culture change.
@support_women@Smidgey1@heraldscotland GCC has been woeful at building cycle lanes that are not connected to the main network. Without proper segregation, safe junctions and a connection to the cycle network usage will not grow much at all
