@RandomKiwi_ @HarrierPres Yes, Nuclear. Su-17s flying from the DDR, would drop RN-24 or RN-28 bombs onto key NATO bases. Including airfields.

@HarrierPres @RandomKiwi_ Yes, the VVS (Frontal aviation) had several rather effective runway denial options. From tactical nuclear, through to cluster munitions. Down to air dropped mines. In a surprise attack on NATO, the VVS would have taken out the airfields in the first hour.

Sukhoi Su-17M3R “14 red” of soviet forces East Germany, is pictured climbing out after takeoff. The M3R served the VVS as a tactical recon aircraft until the introduction of more advanced types in the late 80s. One unit still flew M3Rs In 1990. #SukhoiFitter #Su17M3R #Coldwar
