Found this amazing ๐ณ at the @nationaltrust Ashridge estate. Always astonished by the incredible resilience of nature to still find a way to thrive, even when it seems impossible.
If Holly (Ilex aquifolium) finds its leaves are being nibbled by deer, it switches genes on to make them spiky when they regrow. So on taller Holly trees, the upper leaves (which are out of reach) have smooth edges, while the lower leaves are prickly ๐ค
@YYonnette@IoloWilliams2 I simply canโt imagine it, it simply doesnโt make sense to me! I wonder if it was a man made structure 550 years old & supporting 1,000s of beings would it be demolished? The amount of buildings that are deemed important enough to be listed & our ancient trees should be the same
When will we learn ๐คทโโ๏ธ ancient oak trees support over 2,000 species & are irreplaceable, planting saplings does not mitigate the impact. Why do we protect ancient buildings but not ancient trees?!

Planting trees is something Iโve always been passionate about, thereโs something special about planting something that has the potential to live for hundreds of years, long after weโve returned to the earth, to me it feels like a prayer to the future & a gift to the earth.
Did you know 80,000 chemicals have been introduced to the marketplace since WWII? Jessica is passionate about helping us navigate our way to making safer choices that benefit us & the environment. An inspiring reminder that consumers can make a difference! https://t.co/rppGjyPWMP
@Sofaflyer Thanks for the offer, how have you found engagement over there? Iโve tried a few different places over the years that seemed to have lots of promise but ultimately just never got enough traction.
I used to love twitter but beginning to feel like Iโm just talking to myself posting here, anyone else feeling the same? It used to be my go to community if I had a nature question or needed help with ID of a plant or bird, feeling sad that doesnโt seem to work now.
@Pothila Thatโs a shame, I donโt want to be on another Meta platform, already do FB & Instagram, so just not that excited by another space they provide.
I've been quiet as I've been out of the studio recovering from a torn retina. 3 operations & 4 months later I'm back. This capercaillie is almost finished for @swlanaturaleye next month. I hope I've still got followers! #metalsculpture#SWLA60@ChrisGPackham
We're so back ๐ฆ๐
