You’re comparing nominal GDP and pretending it measures living standards. Cut it with PPP and the picture changes substantially. Canada also has a higher HDI than the U.S., meaning higher overall human development when life expectancy, education and income are considered. So yes, Canada produces less nominal GDP per person than the U.S., but using one cherry-picked statistic to call an entire country “pathetic” is economically illiterate.
