Some conferences end when the last speaker leaves the stage.
The 2026 ZNCC Annual Congress may be remembered for something different. It brought together senior government officials, diplomats, regulators, industrialists, academics, and financiers who did not spend three days debating whether Zimbabwe can compete. The debate was about how fast we can get there.
There was refreshing honesty. Business challenged Government. Government challenged business. Academia challenged industry. Industry challenged academia. Difficult conversations were not avoided. They were confronted. From industrialisation and AfCFTA readiness to innovation, human capital, energy, taxation, regulation, and competitiveness, the focus remained firmly on practical solutions and implementation.
Perhaps the strongest message to emerge from Victoria Falls was this: Zimbabwe does not suffer from a shortage of ideas. The real opportunity lies in execution, consistency, and collective action. If the same energy, candour, and commitment demonstrated at Congress can be replicated across institutions, boardrooms, factories, universities, and public offices, the future may arrive much sooner than many imagine.
Victoria Falls hosted the conversation. The rest of the country now has the responsibility to write the next chapter.
