The Cleveland Orchestra mourns the passing of Music Director Laureate Christoph von Dohnányi, who led the Orchestra with distinction from September 1984 to August 2002. Dohnányi passed away on September 6 at the age of 95.

Leif Segerstam turns 80 years today! He was my conducting professor at the Sibelius Academy some 20 years ago. I consider him one of the last living true virtuosos of the baton – always demanding a "calligraphic quality of gesture" from his students. Happy birthday, Leif!
