Someone needs to look into a "Son of Columbo" idea, in which Columbo's Son (played by @MarkRuffalo, naturally) returns home after his father's tragic death. He stands to inherit "Dog" and THE CAR™️ and an aging Mrs Columbo. Unwilling to desert his mother, he moves back home.
