🚨NEWS - THE RESPECT CHECK PASSED CITY COUNCIL🎉
Solidarity is our strength! UFT members united and paras made their voices heard to move the hearts and minds of the @NYCCouncil, especially our champions @SpeakerMenin and @CnDelaRosa.
Because of the advocacy of our members and the parents who advocated for their children, 49 City Council members joined us in standing for the dignity of our paraprofessionals.
Final step: signing the RESPECT Check into law.

Wasn’t going to say anything, but I’ve seen a few people talk about Shai cutting his braids and going with the fade, saying they like him having a “more professional look.”
Nah. We’re not doing that.
Braids are not unprofessional. They’re a cultural hairstyle throughout the African diaspora, and for many of us, they’re also a protective style.
Calling braids “unprofessional” says more about the standard being used than the hairstyle itself.
People have to stop labeling things they don’t understand as negative. Learn about it. Appreciate it. Accept it. But don’t disrespect it.
