@specflue In addition to Mr. Soot's comment, it's the sale of house coal that is being phased out. Smokeless coal sales still permitted.

@heritagedamp @PeteWard7 There is plenty of research on the subject, which forms the basis for the Clean Air Strategy 2018.
Education is the way forward, many people use their fires/stoves as incinerators, and burn damp wood. Terribly polluting.
For the record I love an open fire.

The solid fuel industry has been subject to some poor tabloid coverage in recent years. Some things need clearing up.

@heritagedamp @PeteWard7 An interesting thread and enjoy following. Although some misinformation there. An open fire is far more polluting than a stove. Always buy one that is Defra approved. Even better, buy one that is Ecodesign 2022 ready.
And a well fitted stove is a straight forward sweep.
