π Celebrating 70 years of Chew Valley lake π
This year marks a remarkable milestone as we celebrate 70 years of Chew Valley lake β a vital part of our regionβs heritage.
Construction began in 1951 in response to Bristolβs growing demand for water, and on 17 April 1956 the lake was officially opened by Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Today, Chew Valley lake spans over 1,200 acres and holds up to 20 billion litres of water, making it the fifth-largest artificial reservoir in the UK β an extraordinary feat of engineering and an iconic local landmark.
