Happiness Isn't Waiting at the Finish Line
If you can't enjoy the process, you won't enjoy the outcome. Because the finish line always moves. The secret isn't in getting there. It's in learning to live here.
Growth Requires Action
"Every positive change - every jump to a higher level involves a rite of passage. Each time to ascend to a higher rung on the ladder of growth, we must go through a period of discomfort or adversity." - Inky Johnson
Perspective Is a Choice
Every day gives you two choices:
See problems or see possibilities.
Complain or choose gratitude.
Live in fear or live in faith.
Gratitude and joy aren't just feelings, they're choices and when you choose them your mindset begins to shift.
Michael Jordan embraced his failures. In an ad for Nike, he says: "I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot, and missed." He went back and practiced the shot a hundred times. https://t.co/t5mHRT3Mwn
A rich Delian ship owner was asked how he built his fortune. “The greater part came quite easily,” he said, “but the first, smaller part took time and effort.”
Creating anything of magnitude requires deliberate and consistent work. Well-being is realized by small steps.
Your work is the only thing that matters.
A young comedian approached Jerry Seinfeld in a club one night and asked him for advice about marketing and getting exposure.
"Exposure? Marketing? Just work on your act.", Seinfeld said.
How you do anything is how you do everything.
On the campaign trail, a heckler once mocked President Andrew Johnson for being a tailor. His response: “That does not disconcert me in the least; I was a good one—punctual, precise, proud of my work."
Being predictable is underrated. Coaches don’t need 9 shutout innings every time—they need to know exactly what they’re getting when they hand you the ball. Pitching like Paul Skenes one night and “Livvy Dunne ” the next, won’t play. Consistently good > occasionally great.
One of the crazier stats I’ve heard is that Derek Jeter had a 0 for 20 stretch at some point in every season of his career, yet he’ll go down as one of the greatest shortstops to ever play this game.
“Being great is simply being predictably and consistently good over a long period of time.”

@JoelSato8 Coach Sato - If you’d like to coach in Iowa this summer I have a spot for you! I loved getting to know you and catching up at the ABCA each year. I was able to take something away from every conversation.
