The FIU Law community recently gathered for a Retirement Reception honoring Professor H.T. Smith, Founding Director of FIU Law’s Trial Advocacy Program, as he prepares to retire at the close of Summer 2026.
Professor Smith’s legacy at FIU Law is extraordinary. Through his leadership, mentorship, and passion for trial advocacy, he has had a lasting impact on students, alumni, colleagues, and the many advocates who carry forward the standards he modeled.
His work in the courtroom, in the classroom, and across the Miami-Dade community reflects the very best of FIU Law. He has been a champion for justice, a voice for those too often unheard, and a guiding force for our law school and the broader legal community.
FIU Law is proud to recognize Professor Smith’s extraordinary service to our students, our Trial Advocacy Program, and the broader community, and to celebrate the remarkable legacy he leaves at our law school.
It was an amazing day celebrating our exceptional graduates at today’s Pre-Commencement ceremony! We can’t wait to see everyone at Commencement on Friday!
