Leaders who get results have true grit
Just read Charles Portis’ 1968 novel - True Grit - it’s much more interesting than the John Wayne movie. My definition of true grit is authentic, integrity and determination. Many leaders today are image conscious fakes. Courage=True Grit
@LHSummers@nytimes In the NYT article are 2 facts that convince me that MMT is about politics and not sound economics.1st, Kelton was a 2 time economic advisor for Bernie Sanders’ campaigns. 2nd, she recommends cutting pentagon spending to curb inflation - assuming Gov’t excess exists only there?
@frankthorp@BretBaier U can trash this Senator all u want. Biden is the only elected official representing all the people. For Biden to unfairly imply that a huge chunk of these people he represents are akin to George Wallace or Jefferson Davis just because they disagree with his bill IS just wrong!
Leaders who get results allow challenge. Most bosses say they invite dissent but few actually mean it. “If employees are punished, even subtly, for raising tough issues, then they won’t.” - from the book DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS by Stone, Patton and Heen.
Leaders who get results exercise humility when they hold team members accountable -asking themselves questions like “Was requisite training and guidance provided well before deadlines?’ It is my experience that when team members fall short their leader often has played a part.
Leaders who get results don’t try to change their team members behavior - they influence team members to want to change their own behavior. (Paraphrased from Al Comeaux’s book CHANGE THE MANAGEMENT). There is an important distinction - change comes from within! Edicts don’t work.
Leaders who get results have authentic conversations using questions like these with their teams. The key concept here is to be authentic- asking these questions in a way that shows you really care - rather than just doing it for show.

Leaders who get results spend their time wisely. They focus on what they are passionate about and what matters most. They maximize time spent on what Covey calls the “important but not urgent”. Yet they are flexible and find time to listen to others. It’s about choosing wisely.
Leaders Get Results. A good axiom is “Praise in public, criticize in private.” Most agree with this but many fall short. Having large omnibus staff meetings with an open agenda lends itself to criticizing in public. Meetings are ineffective and harmful when criticism happens.
This is thought provoking. “Not a word I would have associated with success before I read this piece- worth reading.

This challenge piece tells me company goals should be realistic; metrics are not substitute for strategy; leadership and management are both important; you do not always need top talent if optimize “average” employees; need “good” rules not no rules. https://t.co/T6ZNuR0Aaz
This article hits the nail on the head in outlining the digital transformation issues for smaller companies - alarms should go off if you run a smaller outfit. https://t.co/K77xU9eFke
What Leaders Really Do - this article is not new but the lessons it teaches are timeless. Management deals with complexity. Leadership deals with change. Both are needed. The importance of management should not be denigrated but many orgs are under led. https://t.co/smKyTT2AJZ

Most acts of courage don’t come from whistle-blowers or organizational martyrs. They come from respected insiders at all levels who take action because it’s the right thing to do. https://t.co/BWClXpG4ox
