Carbon credit systems are increasingly expanding into agriculture, positioning farming practices as part of global climate mitigation efforts. In India, where rice cultivation is both economically significant and environmentally intensive, climate-smart agricultural techniques are being promoted to reduce methane emissions and water consumption. Large-scale agreements linking multinational corporations with agricultural alliances suggest that emission reductions are no longer confined to industrial sectors alone. At the same time, these developments raise important questions about equity, sustainability, and how the benefits of climate finance are distributed among smallholder farmers who remain central to such transitions.
In this article, Prof. Anjal Prakash, Faculty of Public Policy at FLAME University, shares his insights and cautions that carbon credit schemes in rice farming could have unintended consequences if not carefully managed. He notes that while such projects aim to promote sustainable practices, they may inadvertently encourage the continued cultivation of water-intensive crops like rice without addressing the underlying issue of resource depletion. Prof. Prakash emphasizes that balancing carbon credit initiatives with water conservation is crucial to ensure that agricultural practices genuinely become sustainable and do not exacerbate India’s existing environmental challenges.

Prof. Anuradha Batabyal, Faculty of Environmental Studies at FLAME University, published her research in the Q1-ranked journal Aquatic Toxicology.
Her paper examines the impact of pesticide-contaminated agricultural runoff on stress response, neurotoxicity, and configural learning in two strains of Lymnaea stagnalis. The study finds that exposure to neonicotinoid and diamide-contaminated water altered stress response and cholinergic receptor gene expression in a strain-specific manner, with key stress markers upregulated during exposure and only partially recovered after washout. The findings demonstrate that environmentally relevant agrochemical exposure can lead to lasting molecular and cognitive impairments in freshwater invertebrates, underscoring the ecological risks posed by pesticide runoff to aquatic ecosystems.

Travel is often understood as movement across places, but solo travel introduces a deeper encounter with the self. Removed from familiar routines, roles, and expectations, individuals must make decisions independently, navigate uncertainty, and respond to unfamiliar situations in real time. This process gradually reshapes self-perception, allowing preferences, instincts, and values that may have been obscured by social obligation to resurface. Small acts like navigating transport systems, solving logistical challenges, asking for help, or adapting to discomfort become moments through which resilience, confidence, and self-trust are strengthened. Encounters with new people and perspectives further expand this process, creating opportunities for reflection and identity reconstruction.
In this article, Prof. Garima Rajan, Faculty of Psychology at FLAME University, explores how solo traveling functions as a form of psychological growth and self-authorship. She highlights that away from external validation and everyday responsibilities, individuals often begin defining their lives from within rather than through prescribed social roles.
The piece also reflects on the emotional complexity of returning home, where the confidence and independence developed through travel may no longer align with earlier routines, a transition sometimes experienced as "post-travel depression." By encouraging active integration through storytelling, new practices, and continued reflection, the article positions solo travel not merely as leisure but as a sustained process of personal evolution and self-definition.
