Where to start... Last week, the FlashAcademy® team were getting ready to head up to Manchester to host our final EAL CPD conference for the academic year at Manchester Art Gallery. As any one else who was in the UK last week will know, we were met with extreme temperatures, red weather warnings and lots of cancelled trains.

After careful review, we made the difficult decision to move the conference online and to say we were blown away by the response is an understatement!

Thank you so much to everyone who logged on from across the globe last Thursday for such an insightful day sharing valuable knowledge about supporting multilingual learners. Moving the conference online allowed delegates to engage with each other from Abu Dhabi to Portugal to the UK and it was such a joy for us to witness such a supportive and bustling community interacting during the virtual sessions.

Another huge thank you to our wonderful speakers! Catherine Alexander, Lead Teacher of English and EAL at St Matthew's RC High School from took us through Multilingualism as an asset: Principles to improve practice. Lucianne Ford, Associate Assistant Principal for EAL and Literacy at Trinity Academy Grammar shared a learner's journey through their school, delivering a masterclass in structured, trauma-informed EAL provision. Mark Sims, HMI and former national lead for EAL at Ofsted, joined Catherine and Lucianne for a frank conversation about what the new inspection framework means for EAL learners.
