Today, we celebrate the birthday of our warrior on the hill, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton.

She has never accepted the limits that other people have tried to place on her or us—and when it comes for fighting for DC, she has never let us down.

From securing federal land for the District, expanding DCTAG, helping us build the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge, and bringing us even closer to DC statehood—her work is deeply embedded in the fabric of our great city.

And her service and her story is inseparable from the story of Washington, DC.

Ten incarcerated men at the East Moline Correctional Center in Illinois earned bachelor's degrees through an academic initiative offered by Augustana College. The graduates were honored on May 28, with a class size more than double the inaugural group in 2025.
