1958 called… it wants its conspiracy theories back 😅😏
‘The First Book of Airplanes’ casually drops cloud seeding with planes for rain and a flat earth map complete with ice wall flight path.
What in the vintage fever dream is this? 📖✈️
If you still believe in the globe Earth theory, you may dislike this one.
You can continue to deny it, but for many others it could awaken doubts about the spinning-sphere model.
@Moonspinner55 Story-wise the look at this man as a writer, a paranoid dweeb who has a non-descript office job in Prague and stumbles over a mystery of a dead man, is a dud. Jeremy Irons, mousy and morose as KAFKA. Climactic visuals keep it from being an absolute bore.
@Moonspinner55 It’s got parked motorcycles. It’s got vibes. It’s got Bukowski-like breakfast cafes. It’s got Willem Dafoe looking greasy in his first screen appearance. What THE LOVELESS hasn’t got is a plot or a pulse to get immersed with. Bigelow can set up a good looking shot, that’s it. D+
@Moonspinner55 Yes I remember Streep dissing it. I don’t know how Robert Benton could turn into such an anemic director following “The Late Show” and “Kramer vs Kramer.” His last great hurrah, to me, was “Nobody’s Fool.” “Twilight” was a near dud.
@Moonspinner55 One of the little things I didn’t like about the movie is the way it fudges on parenthood. None of the difficulty. As parable, DREAM LOVER taps into bad no sex marriage. Sexually denied James Spader is always entertaining! Mädchen Amick delicious sex kitten / femme fatale. B-
@Moonspinner55 Hitchcock’s MARNIE has a warm, intimate glow. Yet something’s off. Beauty Hedren a klepto who cannot stand to be touched. Connery, looking too much like debonair 007, eyes to marry her. Question: Why the hell does he want her that bad?? Freudian recall-tragedy climax adds sense.
