It is Friday GIF Day :)
The first day of the school year with students is coming up or already happened. No matter how many times you have a "first day" it always stirs up feelings. In GIF form, how are you feeling?
Go!
#HiveSummitD11So I used Lego's in class the other day. We are working on understanding our names, our identities and how we can come together to build a supportive, collaborative and reflective community. Kiddos had to build their identity with Lego's and then explain. Awesome!
"The ability to keep/capture the spirit of childhood through our whole life...genius has been educated out of us!" Love this quote! When will we get off the conveyor belt of education - just one more cog in the machine? #HiveSummitD11
Last year when Michael talked about gamification, I thought it was something I wanted to so, but was intimidated. This year, it made so much more sense. I want to toe-dip and give it a go. Paul Yenne, you better help me! #HiveSummitD11
#HiveSummit with @realrapreynolds all about relationships. I was surprised last year at how impactful just showing up to things outside of the classroom was, school events, sports, performances. They made a big difference for no extra work, just spending time. #HiveSummitD11
@ShakeUpLearning gave me so much encouragement to keep kids learning by empowering them with strategies instead of just information - teaching them how to learn, not just what to learn. Exploring, sharing, playing, creating! #HiveSummitD11#hivesummit
Listening to @AngelaMaiers talk about โyou matterโ. It took me until the end of last year to realize that my students needed to hear that out loud, from myself and each other. Starting adolescence can be lonelier and more isolating than we remember. #HiveSummit#HiveSummitD11
We want kids to be โlifelong learnersโ but if they see learning as only โa school thingโ and academics they have limited or no interest in they are less likely to seek out the things they want to discover. #HiveSummit#HiveSummitD11
Moved classrooms from upstairs to downstairs, and now Iโm on the outside wall of our school library! Hoping have the #classroombookaday board in this space will cause other classroom students to peruse the picture books weโve read and ask for them when they visit the library.
Last year, my 5th graders read more books they brought from home and shared with their classmates than they did my books. Time to remove lots of books and please help me replace them!
