Sometimes in life, it’s also about outlasting the elements and fighting off the negativity.
Tracker needed to remember that today.
Golf can be cruel, and stupid, and maddening. But it has the power to uplift and restore. Today has been a surprisingly restorative day.
The stats may not look impressive, but sometimes it is about outlasting the elements and fighting off the negativity. Two things Flipper was able to do tremendously this weekend and especially today.
Not to be. It scoots about 3 feet by, but the comebacker for par drops and Flipper is in the house at (+11) 82.
And that, dear followers, is the ballgame. Flipper wins her first @HJGT title going away, with a 12 stroke cushion on a tough track.
Looking for that first elusive birdie of the weekend. One final shot at it right here on the holeward hole. A straight ahead par 4 with a wide open green and a friendly pin in the front center.
Par 3 17th sees her iron tee shot hit the green pin high and then roll off to the right fringe. Nothing sticks today.
Why don’t you just knock this in for birdie?
“I should!”
Almost. The putt from the fringe comes up a tap short. But it is another par to stay at +11.
From 15 feet…
Tracking…
On a great line……
“DOH!!! It rolled BACKWARDS!!!”
And it’s true. The ball slowed down as it approached the cup, got to the lip, and took an actual revolution back in the direction from whence it came. Unbelievable.
2 putt par and 2 to go.
On the green IN REGULATION on the windy par 5 16th. Flipper actually laughs at her good fortune, amazed that a ball landed and stuck on a green today.
“I haven’t had a birdie all weekend, so this will be it!” she proclaims, manifestorially.
A much friendlier pin placement today on the peninsula par 3 15th, and Flipper takes dead aim. A great line but the rolled green doesn’t hold it and it bounds on to the back fringe.
A pitch back at the hole only gets to 8 feet and the par putt comes up 2 revolutions short.
Of course her approach uphill into a tropical depression gale to a tucked pin came up short. But she hit the little narrow strip of fairway in front of the green! Small victories.
A turn back into the stiff headwind for the par 4 14th. Flipper hits a solid drive that just dies on the breeze, 200 yards short of the pin placed in the far back right corner of the distant green.
