New on Substack, my earlier but updated post on what a New York Times journalist described as the ‘endless housing project’ of Wythenshawe (’pronounced WITH-en-shah’ she added helpfully):

Excellent Guardian review of Andy Spinoza's book Manchester Unspun: "a hugely entertaining account of the city's resuscitation by a well-connected former journalist": https://t.co/eqEzaFfoKb
Reminder that in Tel Aviv they host a huge PRIDE celebration and in Palestine gays are thrown off the roof of buildings. I will always support Israel’s side, especially in this dispute.

@scottygb Question - with stories like this I always wonder.
Do the media know who this person is? Is it generally an open secret? Or they literally don’t know?
The unsophisticated might think Jolyon has had his arse handed to him on a plate, but it's important to remember that losing is on a spectrum, and Jolyon identifies as someone who would have won if only his side weren't trying to exercise legal rights they didn't have. #binary
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Zakharova, commenting on the statements of French President Macron, who called Russia "the only colonial power of the 21st century" waging an imperialist war and destabilizing the countries of Africa, said:
🔹Such tirades sound out of place, given the many years of questionable role of France itself in Africa.
🔹The world community remembers the dirty pages of the colonial policy of Paris, which seeks to exploit the resources of Africa even today, masking its neo-colonial methods with false rhetoric and imaginary concern for the welfare of Africans.
🔹Posing as a champion of international law and the territorial integrity of countries, France continues to illegally hold foreign lands, refuses to recognize responsibility for war crimes and the consequences of nuclear tests in Algeria, for the aggression against Libya in 2011, and the destruction of Libyan statehood.
At the same time, Paris is trying to shift the blame for the consequences of its own criminal actions to African countries.
Interesting piece from my old prof @LSEHousing which examines 8 major housing policy reviews since the 1970s which for different reasons never led to the changes set out, complete with lessons going forward https://t.co/jb9mRF7y13
