BREAKING: SpaceX has signed a major agreement with Qualcomm to build its own nationwide 5G cellular network, potentially challenging Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile directly.

Under the multi-year agreement announced today, SpaceX $SPCX will deploy Qualcomm’s Dragonwing cellular infrastructure across tens of thousands of U.S. cell sites, with initial deployments beginning in 2027.

The network will combine conventional ground-based 5G towers with Starlink’s satellite-to-phone constellation, potentially allowing SpaceX to offer mobile coverage both on the ground and directly from orbit.

Qualcomm will supply its QRU100 radio units, QDU100 baseband platforms and software, including advanced Massive MIMO technology designed to increase network capacity and make more efficient use of spectrum.

Qualcomm $QCOM describes the agreement as its largest 5G deal to date.

The announcement follows SpaceX’s recent spectrum acquisitions and reports that the company is exploring a potential acquisition of Boost Mobile.

Financial terms were not disclosed, and the nationwide network has not yet been deployed.
