Black girls loved Chud the Builder" The Eggshell Problem: the science of how @ChudTheBuilder became beloved by Black Women Dalton Eatherly matched the energy in front of him and refused to walk on eggshells, and even though the language drew extreme reactions, people still usually stopped short of attacking him. Infact, deference would have looked like weakness, and weakness in those encounters would have made an assault more likely. If he had flinched, he would already be dead. Honor culture studies describe this pattern. Nisbett and Cohen found that men treat an unanswered insult as a sign the other man can be pushed, and after the insult, cortisol and testosterone rose and aggressive behavior followed. Stephan and Stephan, in 1985, found that fear of saying the wrong thing, being judged, or looking weak produces withdrawal or exaggerated politeness, and both of those are easy to see. Anyone looking for an opening uses what they can see. Allport, in 1954, said contact works when status is equal and no one is handling the other person. Whites are trained to manage tone, risk, and reputation around Black people, and Black people are trained to treat that management as the minimum they are owed, which leaves ordinary contact on unequal footing. Allport already said unequal-status contact fails. A group that is handled rather than met as an equal is being shown that the other side is afraid, and fear is usable. Compulsory deference made ordinary contact worse and made White caution look like an opening. That is why the culture got worse, and that is why violence toward Whites rose with the eggshell rule. Eatherly put the opposite rule on camera. He used language official race talk forbids, including words that offend the people he was speaking to, and he did not ask permission to stand there, and that display was dangerous to the official story, because the official story needs the eggshell. If blunt equal-status contact can happen in public, with the n-word in the air, and still look more real than diversity training, the training, the media script, and the moral hierarchy lose their reason to exist. Black women moving toward him is part of that problem for the script. Mate-preference research, including Buss, finds that women on average rate status, competence, and honesty above forced politeness, and careful racial speech looks like fear of punishment, while strength that accepts social cost looks like the opposite. Public footage of Eatherly shows Black women laughing, staying in the frame, and treating him as a man rather than as a defendant in a manners trial, including when he used a word aimed at them. The word did not cancel the strength. The strength is what they were responding to. Black men in the same scenes are a separate read, because special rules treat them as people who cannot take a sentence, and speech without those rules treats them as equals. Daryl Davis sat with Klansmen that way and got about 200 of them to leave. Over time the method is the golden rule in public, the same standard and the same mouth, with no racial exemption. Sowell wrote that believing everyone should play by the same rules and be judged by the same standards would have been called radical 60 years ago, liberal 30 years ago, and racist today. Fifty years of managed race conflict depends on the exemption, and Eatherly kept dropping it in the street, which is how one man put half a century of social-engineered race conflict in the gutter. He reinvoked the rule everyone already knew. That is why he was set up. A man who made the official script look optional could not be left as a working example. The eggshell rule is why the footage mattered, and the footage is why they had to stop him.
