In our upcoming experiment, we plan to present the fly with 18+ video content and investigate how its visual features contrast, motion, shape, and temporal dynamics are processed through the lamina, medulla, and lobula before reaching central visual circuits, while simultaneously recording the activity of dopaminergic PAM neurons and the Dop1R1, Dop1R2/DAMB, Dop2R, and DopEcR receptors using calcium imaging, dopamine sensors, and electrophysiology; the resulting data will reflect neural processing of visual stimuli, not proven sexual perception by the fly.
