I always thought Black Women not being picked on Love Island was a Geography problem so I modelled Love Island UK S5–11.
White men from rural England/Wales/Scotland: 5% ever coupled with a Black woman. 5 of these was actually the woman choosing the man.
If they cast from cities where diversity and interracial dating is higher:
→ Bristol (never cast): projected 24%
→ Birmingham: projected 27%
→ Nottingham: projected 25%
And it’s not just White men. Black men from low-diversity hometowns: 12% coupled with a Black woman.
Black men from high-diversity areas (Lewisham, Newham, Croydon): 60%
Projected using a regression model fitted to the observed data, the more diverse a man’s hometown, the more likely he was to couple with a Black woman, and I used that relationship to estimate rates for cities that contestants aren’t typically casted from.
Love Island typically cast people from places like Essex or Kent etc where influencers are from with low diversity.
@anniechrist620 It was on Cartoon Network every day in an after school timeslot and the only other Gundam shows were either official tapes you had to order online or VHS fansubs which were even harder to get hold of. Plus it was one of only 8 anime shows that were on TV at the time.
@PLAYER_UNK0WN@kirayhf Wrong way around. It’s the media the hobby is based on. If you spend $1000 on the Lego Millennium Falcon and you haven’t seen, or have no intention of seeing Star Wars, you’re weird sorry!!!
DEVINE: What do you say to people who claim Bibi Netanyahu tricked you into going into Iran?
TRUMP: They're just the enemy. They're dumocrats. They want transgender mutilization of our children. He tricked me? I'm the one that started it. I'll tell you what -- if there wasn't me, there would be no Israel right now.
@CountAtlas I will keep banging on about this until people listen, the US and UK are different because the US had racial segregation which still has effects today. Whereas immigrants to the UK all moved into the white working class areas.
Rinse was run by white guys for fucks sake.
@misanthropicc92 There was that one time when Akala properly put him in his place on some BBC Three show. They don’t have people like that on the BBC anymore unfortunately.
