That's an incredibly good skill.
Messi used to do it a lot and we say opponents passed the ball back to him.
It's very difficult to control that deflection with one touch, in the direction to score or assist. He didn't even pause or change direction.
Very few players can do that.
I remember Messi first goal against Arsenal the yr he scored 4 against them.
@ARISEtv Nigeria isn't a real place 😭
Look at the idiotic bills your representatives are discussing. Continue voting for rubbish o. Una body go tell
In 2026 💔
1 September 1894.
Sunderland vs Derby County.
The referee misses his train so they start with a local stand-in.
Sunderland lead 3-0 at half-time.
Then the real ref turns up and says start again😭
They play two more halves.
Official result: Sunderland 8-0.
Eleven goals in one afternoon😂

Late 1890s, John Sanger’s circus billed their football-playing elephants as “the greatest novelty in the world.”
Elephants took on six clowns with a ball six times the normal size. Then local pros (Leicester Fosse lads among them) stepped up for penalty shootouts against the star elephant for a massive goblet.
Most lost.
Absolute scenes. 🐘⚽️

16 March 1872 was the first FA Cup final.
Wanderers 1-0 Royal Engineers at the Oval.
Only goal scored by a bloke listed as A.H. Chequer. Real name? Morton Betts. He using a joke alias because he was a Harrow Chequer😀
No nets.
One Engineer broke his collarbone early.
Queen’s Park had already pulled out of the semi because they couldn’t afford the train back for a replay😭
Trenches!

ALL TROPHIES WON BEFORE THIS NEED TO BE TAKEN AWAY ❌
Before the shootout, drawn ties were a coin toss or a replay.
That ended at Boothferry Park on 5 August 1970.
Hull City 1–1 Manchester United, Watney Cup. First competitive penalty shootout.
George Best scored the first one. Denis Law was the first to miss. Hull keeper Ian McKechnie made the save, then stepped up himself and smashed his kick against the bar.
United won 4–3. The whole ritual starts there.
Politics must have decided winners before penalties👎

THE FIRST BLACK PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALLER! 😳
In 1889, Arthur Wharton signed for Rotherham Town and became the first Black professional footballer.
He’d come from the Gold Coast to train as a missionary.
Instead he equalled the world 100-yard record (10 seconds flat) and kept goal like nobody else: punched the ball, or hung off the crossbar and saved with his feet🤭
Preston had never seen anything like him.
When he died in 1930 he went into an unmarked grave. The stone only arrived in 1997.

@UgwunnaEjikem You can still write a document, give to relevant people to read and approve. There is no way this document was written by anyone else but Ronaldo's team.
Bet a lot of people don't know this 😳
Boxing Day 1920.
Goodison is rammed.
53,000 fans inside, thousands stuck outside.
All there to watch women play!
Dick, Kerr Ladies vs St Helens.
A year later the FA decides football is “quite unsuitable for females” and tells its clubs to shut the gates. Clowns 🤡
Ban lasted from 5 December 1921 until 1971😳
They filled a league ground and FA responded by taking the grounds away.

In 1895 Aston Villa won the FA Cup, then stuck the original trophy in a Birmingham boot-shop window so fans could have a look.
Night of 11 September, thieves came in through the roof. The “little tin idol” vanished😂
Never seen again.
Villa were fined £25 for losing it.
Sixty-odd years later a pensioner claimed he’d melted it down for half-crowns🤡 😂
