Queen's Park and the federal government have reached a $357M agreement to fund affordable housing in Ontario. This marks a significant step towards addressing the housing crisis. We look forward to the next phase of the action plan, and the impact it will have in our communities.
The initiative not only protects existing affordable units but creates new supply. This approach helps nonprofits buy existing apartment rental properties to maintain affordable rents for generations & in turn for-profit owners raise capital needed to reinvest in new supply.
The most affordable housing is housing that is already built. As advocated for in our pre-budget submission & discussion paper for an Affordable Housing Fund, we welcome today's government announcement to launch the Rental Construction Fund to safeguard affordable housing.
Fixing the housing crisis, like the climate crisis, requires governments to do their part. The Blueprint for More and Better Housing recommends 140 actions that could add 5.8M new homes by 2030 that are affordable and resilient to climate impacts. https://t.co/IXctPt9tox

For #Budget2024 we urge gov't to lead the charge, using every tool at its disposal: infra funding, tax incentives to give not-for-profit housing providers a buying advantage & funding models to align housing policies with national ambitions. @cafreeland https://t.co/Wv4Nc2Y2Hu
