The ANC and DA government are detrimental to the lives of our people especially youth. When we warned people that this privatisation is dangerous they didnโt listen. Short sightedness consumed them today we have young people being forced out of government contracts with the potential of permanent employment and benefits unto private contracts with an ultimatum. Worse this service of banks is only catering for changing greenbook to smart nothing else. Vuka Darkie.
BREAKING NEWS: Department of Home Affairs allegedly forcing digitisation stuff to be outsourced to a private company.
The Department of Home Affairs, Minister Leon Schreiber and his team of directors want to allegedly outsource the current digitisation staff of between 1 200 and 1 500 to a private company, Phetogo.
The employees have been under the DHA for 3 years, going on 4 years now. They are allegedly earning a salary of R5 000 without any UIF or any benefits. These are graduates who hold qualifications. Now the DHA wants to outsource them to a private company under the same conditions of exploitation.
On the 24 March 2025, police were called in one of the hubs at Silverton, Pretoria because the employees refuse to work under such conditions.
All the hubs were closed down and we were told to go home and wait for further communication. Allegedly they are threatening to fire the stuff and appoint new staff if they refuse to sign with Phetogo a private company. The stuff refuse to be exploited and outsourced.
DA Minister of Home Affairs @Leon_Schreib is exploiting DHA digitisation staff, who have been receiving a stipend of R5000 for more than 3 years in the government department with no benefits (UIF, medical aid, etc). Instead of employing them permanently after more than 3 years of service, they are being outsourced to a private company (Phetogo) on a 3-month contract with the same conditions.
The digitisation staff are young graduates with diplomas, degrees and honours, but they are not taken seriously. Last week on 18 March 2026, they marched to the head office of Home Affairs and the Unions building to submit a memorandum. They were told they would receive feedback within 7 days, only to be instructed to stay home and forced to sign the contract with the private company under the same conditions.
According to the labour acts and the constitution, they are more than qualified to be employed permanently. The DA government is giving their friends tenders. The digitisation employees do not want to be outsourced after working so hard under the government department.
Away with outsourcing! Khaningenelele Mamaโค๏ธ @HhMkhaliphi
