Delhi: On NEET-UG counselling, FORDA National General Secretary Dr. Meet Ghonia says, "The Union Health Ministry has introduced reforms under NEET-UG, under which the admission process for MBBS, BDS, Homeopathy, Ayurveda and other undergraduate courses will now be conducted through centralised, merit-based counselling. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), which handles counselling for NEET-UG, NEET-PG and NEET-SS, has issued a new direction under which candidates will have to complete one-time registration for admission to any course. After that, even if their seat is upgraded in subsequent rounds, they will not have to visit physically for verification after every round..."

Until now, the counselling process generally consisted of three rounds, with a mop-up round conducted in some cases. #WATCH | Delhi | On the NEET-UG counseling reforms, Federation of Resident Doctors Association National General Secretary Dr Meet Ghonia says, “3-4 reforms were introduced, many of which hadn't been implemented previously but are being put into effect this year. First, consider that while 20 lakh students took the exam, around 10 to 12 lakh will participate in the counseling. Previously, students had to undergo physical reporting multiple times across the various stages… However, the Union Health Minister has now decided to implement a "one-time" system for physical reporting and document verification. This single verification process remains valid throughout the counseling stages; even if you secure admission in a different city or state during the final round, the verification completed earlier will still be accepted there. Secondly, a "one-time registration" system has been introduced for all counseling processes. Whether you are seeking admission to MBBS, BDS, or any other course, the counseling process for the Union Government's 50% All India Quota remains unified, allowing you to proceed with your admission through this single registration."

FORDA welcomes the Hon'ble Supreme Court's direction to the Government of Tamil Nadu to revert the 151 unfilled NEET SS seats to DGHS and its direction to ensure the counselling process is completed expeditiously.

We urge MCC & DGHS to resume NEET SS 2025 counselling immediately and implement the Hon'ble Court's directions without any further delay.

Thousands of aspiring super-speciality doctors have already waited for months.

National Medical Commission @NMC_BHARAT has issued a public notice regarding the conversion of Post Graduate Diploma seats into Broad Specialty Degree seats (MD/MS).

🔹 Academic Year 2026-27 will be the last year for admission to PG Diploma courses.
🔹 From Academic Year 2027-28 onwards, no admissions will be permitted to PG Diploma courses.
🔹 All PG Diploma courses will be phased out and converted into MD/MS degree seats, subject to approval by MARB and fulfillment of NMC norms.

At today's NITI Aayog meeting, Tamil Nadu CM @TVKVijayHQ reiterated his opposition to NEET UG and sought permission to fill MBBS, BDS & AYUSH seats solely on the basis of Class XII marks rather than NEET UG in his state.

While policy debates on NEET UG continue, a more urgent question remains unanswered :
Why is NEET SS 2025 counselling still incomplete more than 6 months after the examination?

NEET SS 2025 was conducted in December 2025. We are now in June 2026, and thousands of aspiring DM, MCh & DrNB candidates remain stuck in uncertainty. Delayed counselling means delayed specialist training, delayed patient care, and delayed strengthening of India's healthcare workforce.

The future of specialist doctors cannot be sacrificed to administrative indecision. The Central Government and all concerned authorities must immediately complete the NEET SS counselling process and ensure such delays never recur.

Six months of waiting after a national entrance examination is unacceptable and reflects poorly on medical manpower planning in the country.
