"With 84% of the British public supporting mutual Freedom of Movement between the UK and EU, it is becoming harder to understand why the UK government remains so firmly attached to one of the hardest forms of Brexit. People increasingly want practical mobility arrangements that restore opportunities, connections and freedoms on both sides. British people already want to re-join the EU. When will politicians catch up?"
@mikegalsworthy@wh500w Shouldn’t be too difficult. He has been wrong about almost everything. He has damaged Britain and weakened us. Wish @AndyBurnhamGM@Keir_Starmer would drop their stupid caution and speed up the rejoining process. No time to waste
@implausibleblog@ChillaxBcn I think, unfortunately Lisa Nandy is partially responsible for the brexit catastrophe - I remember her interviews at the time. She continues to live in total denial and needlessly perpetuates the consequential difficulties we now face.
Brexit was sold as taking back control.
But for many ordinary people it delivered more forms, more permissions, more border friction and more dependence on foreign administrative systems.
The biggest myth in British politics is that nobody wants Freedom of Movement back.
Millions of people lost opportunities, careers, relationships, study options and the simple freedom to live across Europe.
People do care.
And politicians are starting to realise it.

This makes an absolute mockery of Starmer’s pledge, just a few hours ago, to put the country “at the heart of Europe”. And why on earth is the Brexit vote one that can never be revisited - even when a majority in the country recognise it was a mistake & want to return? Madness
The prime minister is right. We need to get back to the heart of Europe.
That will never happen whilst the red lines remain on the single market, the customs union and freedom of movement.
They need to go now and be seen to go now otherwise it’s a waste of time.

@SamCoatesSky@cathynewman Actually there are millions of people throughout this country who would like the debate reopened. Ignoring them stokes division. Lisa Nandy’s position is divisive.
@BladeoftheS Totally agree and literally why not a second referendum? Why do they sneer and claim there is no appetite for one. Of course there is an appetite for one and the result will settle the argument
@Suewilson91@Keir_Starmer A clear majority of UK voters want to rejoin the EU. Starmer wants to keep us out - it is still not clear why . He should be required to explain .
2019: Priti Patel gloats about Brexit ending the free movement of people with the EU
2024: The Guardian, "Majority of Brexit voters ‘would accept free movement’ to access single market" - and Newsnight report that 68% accept freedom of movement
Within 5 years the British people have rejected the flagship Brexit policy of ending freedom of movement. If we are a democracy, when will we accept the updated will of the British people?
@RhonddaBryant Absolutely, but it should be for all. Freedom of movement for all - the Brexit disaster has damaged so many businesses and so many people’s livelihoods for no apparent benefits. Millions of people’s views are currently being ignored.
Ridiculous. The start of the implosion of the London stock market can be traced with absolute precision to the day after the Brexit referendum. Deliberately misleading to suggest otherwise.
What about Russian interference in the Brexit Referendum? The Conservatives prevented proper investigation and reporting of Putin’s malign influence. Romanian court cancels presidential election https://t.co/P97W36NB2V
Reform UK leader @Nigel_Farage says
“We need to leave the ECHR so we can deport people that come illegally & take back control of our borders & that’s what the public wants”
RT if you disagree with his populist boll**** the UK should join Russia & Belarus outside the ECHR
Oh come on Labour - so depressing to hear Pat McFadden say UK has no plans for a youth mobility scheme with the EU. We have schemes with NZ, Australia, Canada, Japan, Iceland, Uruguay - only reason not to have one with EU is fear of right wing press. Such cowardice @bbclaurak
