So what these reactionaries are really saying is that we're not real "Latinos," that because of our embrace of gender-neutral language and either membership in or allyship with the LGBTQ+ community, we have subtracted ourselves from the "Hispanic" community altogether.
Pero no. A la mierda / chingada con eso. You can't say "no Hispanics or Latinos like this term" when clearly a sizable percentage of us do.
You're free not to like it. But QUIT POLICING THE REST OF US!!!
Stop saying, "Don't call me 'Latinx."
Who the hell is calling you that?
I know that I have never addressed or referred to an individual directly as a "Latinx" (except for one Gen Z person who requested they be called that).
The term is used for GROUPS or unspecified individuals (like in the abstract ... "books for the Latinx reader").
Joder.
The Brotinos and Karencitas are out in full force this month, decrying the use of #Latinx / #Latine as "slurs," "brainwashing by white liberals," "woke," etc., and declaring "no Hispanic likes the term." 🤔
But just click on #Latinx & you'll see thousands of Latines using it.
She’s been my fregona for 31 years. Tomorrow, you can read the story of the character she inspired.
